Are you beginning bassoon as a new musician, or switching from a single reed instrument? Here are three tips to help you get started with the unique embouchure that the bassoon requires!
1) Whistle while you work! Form your lips like you are about to whistle and insert your bassoon reed! This is your new embouchure!
2) Crow! Blow a steady stream of air through just the reed. Listen for high, middle and low crows simultaneously!
3) MOO! Place reed on bocal and play a C. Start with enough air to produce a sound then push more air to hear the pitch rise to in tune!
