Most trumpet players are familiar with the most common mouthpiece sizes like 7C or 5C, but there are many sizes. What do the numbers mean anyway? What size should you be playing on? Good questions.
The numbers on trumpet mouthpieces relate to the dimensions of the cup, rim and throat. As a player’s embouchure develops, they often change their mouthpiece size.
Most commonly, beginners start with a 7C, and then, as they develop, audition different sizes to find the one that’s right for them.
